2) Shadows Fall—“My Demise”
Besides being one of the leading metal bands on the scene (with multiple Grammy nominations under their belt), Shadows Fall has the distinction of being featured on the game Guitar Hero, an indisputable badge of honor in the MySpace generation. There are few things cooler than that, except…making it to the “Top Riffs of 2009.” The riff from “My Demise” off of Retribution clocks in at No. 2 on our list and is a virtual encyclopedia of metal techniques from palm-muted sixteenths to triplet hammer-on/pull-off combinations. Yngwie-style shredding (not notated here) caps off the intro.
